Still Really Tough

It has been a tough 2009 for Aaron. He has had 4 pin infections right in a row. Dr. Snyder has tried him on 3 antibiotics. He has just finished his 4th round of antibiotic treatment, and I am hoping that this will do the trick. Aaron's tummy is handling the medicine pretty well, thankfully.

Both boys have missed a lot of school because of illness. Aaron has been in school just a handful of days in the past 3 weeks. It is very frustrating to have the pin infections, random pain in his leg, and then regular illness. We have not been in any kind of routine lately.

One good thing is that Aaron's bottom part of his fixator may be removed in early March. Because of the continued pin infections (most of which are in his foot) and bone loss (from not being able to put weight on his foot), Dr. Snyder thinks that it might be best to remove the pins that are in his foot. This will enable Aaron to step on his foot for the first time since October 2nd! I have not heard from the surgical scheduler at this time.

Aaron does continue to work hard at PT. He is walking around without his walker and getting stronger every day. He works on doing pull ups and wheelbarrows (I don't know about you, but I cannot do these) for arm strength and works on balance and mobility with his legs. School has been frustrating because of all the absences. I am hoping with Spring around the corner, that will improve. The staff at his school continues to be wonderful and supportive.
