So far, this has been a great week. Aaron stayed most of the day at school on Monday. He did get a bit tired, and I picked him up earlier than planned. However, he was cheery and in a good mood. We were able to go home and relax. Jon got home early and I took Ethan to his den meeting which was really fun. There is nothing like being around very active 2nd grade boys!
Tuesday the boys had the day off from school. Ethan had an early morning orthodontist appointment, and then we drove to their cousins' house for a playdate. The boys had a great time, and I got some cuddle time with my niece and some girl time with my sister-in-law. On the way home, I was remembering some good advice that I received on Sunday. A nurse friend said that one of her jobs is sometimes to cause pain or discomfort before the patient gets better. She said that I needed to put on my nursing hat. (I am wondering why I didn't go to school to be a PT or a nurse!) With that, I determined to work Aaron a bit more to see what he could handle.
Once home, the boys did a little homework to earn some computer time. Then, Aaron walked and went upstairs for his shower. He did very well, and he was much less itchy. He then walked downstairs to his little "bed" area. I cleaned his pins and turned the screws for lengthening. Unfortunately, we didn't put tape on his struts the last time we lengthened. It was amazing how much they had changed. Aaron moves his leg around so much, that some of the back struts are easily moved. I was not able to make up the whole difference (2 of the struts were 3 mm off!) Tuesday, and hopefully will be able to do so today (Wednesday). He also walked up to bed. So, I am thinking that he can walk much more now.
Today (Wednesday), I took Aaron to school. The first thing he does is walk - and he walked around the entire perimeter of the gym! I think that Mrs. Peterson counted like 239 feet or something like that. Aaron was so happy, and he was even happier that he was itchy! Maybe we have crossed a barrier here. Mrs. Peterson and I thought that probably he could do more walking in the classroom and maybe site in a regular chair. I will be anxious to see how it goes. My back will be VERY happy - that is for sure.
I have enjoyed the morning doing a little bible study and then cleaning! Never thought I could be so happy cleaning. There is still so much to do, but I am off to pick up Aaron for his PT. I am sure that he will be able to do much more without so much pain today! We are setting the bar higher!
