Surprise Trip

On Saturday, we had to bring Aaron down to the ER at Children's Hospital. He had a 101 fever with chills and he was having increasing leg pain. It didn't look like a pin infection because he didn't have any drainage from the pins. So, we had feared that he might have an infection deeper in his bone.

It was a long wait, as you can imagine. They x-rayed his leg, took blood to see what it looked like, and cultured one of his pins that actually did have drainage! They decided by early evening that he should be admitted for IV antibiotics. His inflammation markers were high and they wanted to treat it right away.

So, we spent Saturday, Sunday, and Monday in the hospital. The doctors decided to release him on Monday because he had no fever and he was looking good. A retake of the blood showed that his inflammation markers were down. Blood cultures were so far showing nothing and a pin culture showed a staph infection. We got home late afternoon with some oral antibiotics to give him until we see his doctor on May 13th.

Unfortunately, while Aaron was in the hospital they could not reach his orthopedic doctor. He is away for 2 weeks doing a medical mission. So, we will patiently wait until next Wednesday for the CT scan which hopefully will show that Aaron can have his fixator removed!

Aaron did very well in the hospital and enjoyed the unlimited TV time as well as cuddle time and attention from the nurses. He is having a harder time with blood draws and IV placement. (They had to do it twice! That wasn't good.)

He went to school today, Tuesday, and he seems in good spirits. We will use the rest of the week to recover and get our energy back!
