Aaron's Surgery Successful

Riding down to Children's - Not looking too excited!
Aaron did very well this morning. He is becoming a pro at not eating food or drinking water in preparation for surgery and not being anxious! It is amazing to me. This time, we had Ethan go to school. Both boys have had so many absences. So, Nana and Papa stayed at home to see Ethan off on the bus.

Once we got down to Children's, there was a bit of waiting. But, Aaron was able to watch a movie to pass the time. Aaron had the same anaesthesiologist - which was great! Dr. Mohammad is such a kind man. He explains things very well to Aaron. He gave him some medicine to calm Aaron's nerves and also makes him forget going into the operating room. Aaron was relaxed as they wheeled him in, and I got to stay with him until he fell asleep.

Pre-surgery and even pre-medicine.

Aaron's surgery was about 1/2 hour. It took Aaron quite a while to wake up from anesthesia. Once he did, he recovered quickly and we were able to leave. His surgery was at 10 am, and we arrived home at 4:00 pm. Not too bad. Dr. Snyder said that the surgery went well. He gave us the pin - you should see it (picture below)! It is quite long - 3/4 of an inch was screwed into his bone. Dr. Snyder took out the pin and then had to place another pin in another location. He was pleased with how the bone is healing. It is hopeful that the May 13th CT scan will show that his bone is strong enough to remove the fixator. (Of course, this is no guarantee, but we are hopeful.) We are also hopeful that he will have no more infections or pain so that he can get back to his regular school, PT, and play schedule.

Pin that was in Aaron's bone.

What a half year! We are learning so much and are thankful for all that we have. We are thankful that this next phase is over and are also hoping for less surprises!

Recovering post-op at home.
