Happy New Year

After I posted on Monday, we went to PT. There I realized that Aaron had what looked like an infection around 2 of his pins on his foot! Chris, Aaron's PT, said that it looked like one too. Aaron didn't want me to touch it, and I could tell that he had a slight fever. I was anxious because it is the holiday season and I was not sure if I could reach his doctor. I called his nurse at Children's, and thankfully she was there. She was able to call in a prescription and we started him on a heavy duty antibiotic 4 times a day for 10 days. I was a bit upset for awhile because I was hoping to avoid an infection. But, it has been 3 months without one and things happen. Another thing I was thankful for was finding it before New Year's Eve or New Year's Day!
Our plans changed a bit because of the snow on New Year's Eve and Aaron's infection. We decided not to drive down to Boston to the Aquarium. That was a bummer. The good news was that my friend Christie made Aaron a snow suit with a special leg for his fixator leg. She used part of a sleeping bag stuff sack for the bottom and a waterproof bath mat for the inside. I have very clever friends, and really love outsourcing these things! Aaron was so very excited, I could hear him screaming and laughing while playing outside with Ethan and Jonathan. Here are some pictures of Aaron and Ethan in the snow.

Yesterday we had planned to go swimming but because of Aaron's infection we did not. (the best laid plans of mice and men . . . .) Aaron's pins looked a little worse because there was a little gross thing with puss getting bigger. Jon and I were getting a little concerned, but we talked to Betty, Aaron's nurse at Golden Brook. She said that it could take up to 5 days for it to get better on the antibiotics. Aaron didn't have a fever so, we just kept an eye on it. We played games and watched cartoons. It was a pretty easy going day.

This is what his infected pins look like.
It was surprising how fast the infection came
reminding me that we have to be very diligent about his leg!

Today Aaron's pins look much better. He has PT today so we will see how is pain is. Happy New Year everyone!

Your friend is brilliant for inventing and creating those snow pants. How clever! The infection looks nasty. Hope all is better now.
