Quiet Day at Home

Today was a pretty good day. Aaron did a lot of hard work walking today, and his pain seemed a lot less intense. He also climbed down the stairs and lifted himself into his wheelchair. We started doing some school work today also. We read a Gorilla story that Mrs. Iannuzzi sent home with Ethan and worked on finding all the words that started with "g".

Ethan wasn't feeling well this morning so Jonathan took him to the doctor's office, but he was able to go to school in the afternoon. We all got to sleep in a little later which was nice.

Today we also began the lengthening process. Dr. Snyder gave us a sheet that tells how much to turn 6 different dials. It's quite complicated, but Jonathan and I were up to the task. It didn't seem to bother Aaron too much. Ideally, we will continue to do this for 50 days (moving the bone apart 1 mm/day), however, most likely it will take longer than that. As the bone lengthens, it can cause some muscle and nerve pain. If that happens, we will slow down the lengthening and only do 1/2 mm or 1/2 mm per day.

Aaron also had some visitors today after school. Connor, Eilis, Stephanie, and Riley came by. He was so happy to have them come and visit. He showed off his new bionic leg (he also calls it a Transformer leg). I think that he is on an upward trend. He will continue to grow stronger every day.

Tomorrow, we will be headed down to Concord, MA for another appointment. Aaron will have another part added to his fixator. Unfortunately, this will add a lot more weight to his leg. We also will be meeting the Brown family there too. Their daughter, Zoe, had the same procedure done last year. Her mom, Gwen, will be giving me some pointers on keeping the pin areas clean and infection-free!

Aaron has enjoyed all the blog comments, e-mails, and cards. Thank you so much for sending them. He gets a big smile on his face when he knows that people care and that they are taking the time to pray for him too.
