Day 2 Post-Surgery

Last night was much better! Because yesterday was so tough for Aaron, visitors did not stay too long and others decided to come this weekend. Jonathan stayed until 11 pm to visit and cuddle with Aaron. The pain medication finally kicked in, and Aaron was much more comfortable during the night. We both got to sleep more. I got to watch the end of the Red Sox game - it wasn't as hard to be up at 1 am! It was a plus they won too. Aaron's night nurse was awesome! She kept up his pain medication and did the extra things that make life easier.

Aaron had a bit of a tough time this morning, but he felt better after his morning dose of medicine. PT came pretty early in the morning, and he practiced climbing the stairs and going down the stairs on his butt while I hold his leg. He graduated from PT at the hospital and will have home-based PT for awhile. We received his wheelchair and walker today too. They are perfectly Aaron-sized. He was sore after PT, but was tired enough to take a nap.

Jonathan came in just in time with some coffee for me and a cuddle for Aaron. Aaron's day nurse came in (nurses here have 12 hour shifts here - that must be tough!) and showed us how to do his pin cleaning. She timed this to be an hour after he received his pain medication. His pin sites look really good, but it is hard for Jonathan, Aaron, and me to see his leg like that. Aaron did remarkably well with the regimen. In general he is really holding up very well. The nurse showed us how to use different cleaning solutions to keep the large and small pins clean. We will need to do this twice a day which is a lot of work but important to do to avoid infections.

Right now Aaron is relaxing and watching TV. He is starting to get his appetite back. We are hoping that we can still leave on Sunday or Monday. He will have some visitors today and he is looking forward to that.

I'll update more later. Right now we are thankful for great nurses, pretty good pain control, the healing from the surgery, Aaron's ability to get some rest (and me too), family and friends to pick up the slack, and other things that I can't think of right now. Please keep praying for his general comfort and healing.

Hang tough, Aaron! Lots of prayers are going your way from up here in NH. Praying that you will be coming home as soon as possible, as soon as you are ready, and hopefully not during rush hour! We'll miss you tomorrow at Sunday School!
