We are continuing to do well. We have been at school more and more each day. And, now I am late so I have to go, but I will write more later.
OK - now I am back. I added some pictures below. Yesterday (Thursday), he was at school for 5 hours! He was a bit tired, and we probably should have left 2 hours earlier. However, he wanted to participate in music and library. I thought for sure he would fall asleep on the way home, but that didn't happen. I cleaned his pins without him taking a shower. Then Jonathan turned his pins, which was very painful. There is a lot of tension in the pins - so I can see why Aaron is in a lot of pain. We are hoping that we can slow down the pin turning or give him a rest for a bit.
Friday morning was a bit rushed. It is hard for us to get to school by 9:30! Aaron had a tough morning. He was tired, and he didn't really want to go to school. I reminded him, however, that it was pizza day, and that reinvigorated him. We lasted through the morning - it was Pumpkin Day in Mrs. Iannuzzi's class - and even had some pizza. We went home at noontime and Betty sent us home with another yummy dinner.
On a side note, I do have to say that I LOVE to be at school! It is so fun and the kids and staff are great.
Once home, we didn't have much chance for a rest because the visiting nurse came and the PT. He had a hard time walking today. And, now instead of pain, he has severe itchiness after exertion. Upon the nurse's suggestion, I have been giving him Benedryl and Tylenol to help with that. And, it truly does seem to help. The PT had a game with balloons for him which helped him NOT focus on his leg. He did very well, and that seemed to perk him up.
Ethan came home from school, and they played Lego Batman while I cleaned Aaron's pins. Then I got ready to turn his pins, and he experienced quite a bit of pain. I stopped after turning 2 pins, and gave him some more medicine. I finished turning the rest of the 4 pins 1/2 hour after the medication, and his pain was better. I sent an e-mail to Children's for some advice about the pain, but probably won't hear back until Monday.
Aaron's next appointment at Children's is Wednesday afternoon. At that apppointment, he will be x-rayed. So, I am anxious to see how his growth has been. I guess we have been lengthening for 15 days. So, he has gained 15 mm or 1.5 cm. That is quite a bit in a 2 week time. By next week, he will have gained another 5 mm. I am also wanting to ask a lot more questions about pain management and locomation.
We are glad that it is the weekend. Thank you for all your support and help and prayers.
